Customs in Jersey and Guernsey

The Channel Islands are part of the EU, which means that when you ship to them from anywhere else in the EU, including (for the time being) mainland UK, you won't have to pay any customs duties. As Guernsey is also a tax haven, you won't be charged any taxes on your parcel either, so it will enter the country for free.

If you're sending to Jersey from the mainland UK however, then you will have to pay a 5% goods and services tax if your combined shipment is worth more than £240. ParcelCompare produces all the forms you need for customs when you book your delivery, all you have to do is print them out and attach them to your parcel

Collection & delivery

Collection

Get your booking in early enough and we can collect same day from across the UK.

If you don't fancy waiting in for our courier, then you can save even more time and money by using a UPS Access Point. These are local businesses, such as newsagents, where you can drop off your package for our courier to pick it up.

Remember, you must have your label printed off and your box packed and sealed before our driver arrives to collect.

Delivery

Your package will be delivered between 9am and 7pm on working weekdays. If you want to narrow down that window you can choose one of our timed delivery slots when making your booking.

If you are sending an oversized or bulky package, then someone must be on hand to help our driver unload it from the van. If this will require special equipment, such as a pallet truck, or vehicle with a tail-lift, then let us know when you make the booking.

Tracking your parcel to the Channel Islands

When using a courier to ship, it's always nice to be able to check on your parcels progress and make sure it's ok. That's why Parcelcompare offers real-time tracking on all its shipments.

All you have to do is enter your shipping number on our site, and you'll be able to see the moment your parcel is recorded as arriving in Jersey or Guernsey. And if for any reason there's a delay in your shipment, we'll send an email to you and your receiver, so you always know what's happening.

Sending gifts to Jersey and Guernsey

When sending a present to Guernsey from the mainland UK, as with other shipments, you won't be required to pay duties or taxes. If, however, you're sending a gift to Jersey, then the £240 value limit still applies, above which you will have to pay a fixed 5% tax.

If you're sending a Christmas present from an individual to an individual, then Jersey customs do offer exemptions from tax. To qualify you must ensure that, as well as providing a detailed description of every item in your parcel, you also need to state 'gift shipment' on your customs invoice. Any presents sent to a business will not get a concession, so if you're sending a gift, always ship it to a residential address.

Send food to the Channel Islands

Jersey and Guernsey may be closer to France than England, but that doesn't mean they won't appreciate some great British cuisine if it's sent to them. Shipping food with Parcelcompare is simple, just follow the checklists below.

What you cannot send:

Perishable foods

  • Foods with a shelf life of less than 6 months

  • Homemade foods or any foods not in the original manufacturers packaging

  • Foods that can spoil during transit

  • Food in packaging that have been opened

  • Food that does not contain a food label listing the ingredients

Packaging your parcel

The Channel Islands are aptly named, as they are indeed just a short hop across the Channel from mainland UK. However, even a journey that short has its share of bumps and knocks.

To ensure your goods remain safe on their trip just follow our three simple steps to perfect packing.

1. START WITH A BOX

The staple of all good packages, buy a new box, to avoid the hidden weaknesses which can come with an old one. For some frequently-shipped items, such as tennis rackets, you can get boxes specifically designed to fit around them.

2. PACKAGE CAREFULLY

The end goal here is to have a tightly-packed box which you wouldn't be scared to drop from waist-height. Wrap all items individually and suspend in packaging material with the box, at least 6cm from the inner walls.

3. SEAL SECURELY

Use packing tape and go three times around the box in a Union Flag pattern, so that all seals and corners are covered. Our couriers sometimes carry document wallets you can use for your shipping labels, but it saves time to attach them before collection.

Holidays and gift giving occasions in Channel Island

Public holidays are a great excuse for everyone to enjoy some time off together, often with a few gifts thrown in. However, if you're planning on sending a present around a bank holiday, remember that ParcelCompare doesn't collect or deliver on these days, so you need to book early to avoid disappointment.

To help you plan your deliveries we have collected a list of the remaining Channel Island bank holidays in 2025, and the upcoming ones in 2026 below.

Please note, Alderney does not celebrate Liberation Day.
