Customs in Ireland
Sending a parcel to Ireland is a quick and simple process. As both the UK and Ireland are members of the European Union, sending a package to Ireland requires no customs invoice, import duty or VAT payment. You will, however, need to abide by Ireland’s restricted and prohibited items list.
If you are shipping from outside of the EU, then your package will be subject to a customs check and will require clearance. This means you will need to declare every item included in your package by completing an invoice for customs, which is automatically provided by Parcelcompare. You may also be required to pay import duty and tax on your shipment.

We pick-up from your door, so no need to wait in tiresome Post Office queues. For items under 50kg in weight, we also offer a same-day collection service.
If you want to send heavy items to Ireland, please book 24 hours in advance of your desired pick-up date. If your package is over 50kg in weight, then you will need to provide assistance to the driver when loading and unloading the item.
If you require a tail-lift collection, then please contact our customer services.
Delivery
Most of our partner carriers make three delivery attempts as standard and deliver between 9am and 7pm on working weekdays only. Some however, will only make one delivery attempt before returning the package to the sender, so do your best to be available to take delivery.
Please see our timed delivery services if you are sending a time-sensitive package. If you’re shipping a bulky item, you may need to provide the delivering courier with assistant unloading.

Shipping gifts to Ireland
From outside the European Union, there is a gift exemption for shipments worth less than €45, though normal duties and taxes will be levied for gifts that are worth more. Make sure that wherever you’re sending to Ireland from, you make sure to properly declare the nature and contents of your package.
It’s also important to remember that you shouldn’t wrap up any gifts that you are sending, as customs officers will simply unwrap them if they are inspected. Parcelcompare suggests using a gift bag if you would like to your goods to arrive looking festive.

Sending food to Ireland

Packaging your parcel
Sending parcels to Ireland means a lengthy journey, and, by the time it arrives, your package will have been handled multiple times. In order to ensure that the contents of your parcel arrive in one piece, it’s important to properly package them before they are shipped.
There are three key things you need to be aware of when packing your parcel:
1. GET A NEW BOX
Used boxes can hide weaknesses that could lead to your parcel crushed in transit, so ParcelCompare suggests picking up a brand new box for every shipment. If you’re sending something which weighs more than 10kg then a double-lined box is recommended.
2. PACK IT TIGHTLY
Wrap each item separately before placing it in the box, then fill the gaps with packaging material, such as foam peanuts. There should be at least 6cm between the contents and the edge of the box and nothing should rattle if you shake it.
3. SEAL IT CAREFULLY
Stick parcel tape three times around your package in every direction, to form a Union Jack flag pattern. Peel off any old shipping labels and stick your new ones on firmly, so that all information is clearly visible.
Holidays and gift giving occasions in Ireland
If you are shipping to a friend or loved one in Ireland during one of its 13 public holidays, then be aware that courier collections and deliveries can halt. We advise booking your delivery in advance and expect delays during peak shipping times.
