Customs in Belgium
As Belgium is part of the European Union, when you're shipping from another country in the EU you won't have to worry about paying duties or taxes on your parcel. Thanks to the free movement of goods and people, packages moving between EU countries don't need to clear customs or pay fees on entry. On the other hand, sending from outside of the European Union means that packages worth more than €150 will have duties and taxes applied.
Collection & delivery

When you book a shipment to Belgium, you can select either same-day pick-up, or choose a future date. If your parcel is large or heavy, you may be required to assist the driver in loading their van.
You can make use of a local drop-off point if you don't want to wait home for the courier. These are shops across the UK that you can drop your package off at your convenience, and are available outside of normal working hours. Using a drop-off point is also cheaper, saving you even more money.
Delivery
Unless you have chosen to use one our timed delivery services to Belgium, we will deliver your shipment on a normal working day between 9am and 7pm. If the recipient is not available, most of our couriers will attempt two further delivery attempts, however DPD only makes one attempt.
Some of our courier networks, such as UPS, will leave deliveries in a safe place without obtaining a signature. If your shipment requires proof of delivery, please use the upgrade option ‘Signature required' on our ‘select service page'.
Parcel tracking
When a parcel is shipped by courier, it is scanned at each stop on its journey. This means that you can keep an eye on it from the moment it leaves your hand and every subsequent step on the way. Every time the parcel is scanned, our tracking is updated.
In the unlikely event that there is a problem with your shipment, the tracking status or your package will change and we will advise you what the delay is. We'll also pro-actively email you and your recipient when any issues occur.
Large parcel and air freight
Shipping with Parcelcompare means that even large parcels or freight shipments can be sent cheaply and simply. By using our specialist partners like DHL and UPS, Parcelcompare offers a cheap option to ship packages that are up to 270cm in length and 1,000 kg in weight, including pallets. When using our services to send bulky items or heavy shipments to Belgium, just remember that you will need to book at least 24 hours in advance. You will also need to be on hand to offer assistance in loading and unloading your shipment when your courier arrives.
Sending gifts to Belgium
If you're sending from outside the EU, you will not have to pay duties and taxes as long as your gift is worth less than £45.If your parcel is worth more than €45 then duties and taxes will still be applied, and will be the responsibility of the recipient to pay.

To prevent this, be sure to properly explain the contents and their purpose – “Gift, Lego building blocks” is far less likely to have problems in clearing customs.

Packaging your parcel
Sending parcels to Belgium is not the gentlest process and, by the time it arrives, your package will have been handled multiple times. In order to ensure that the contents of your parcel arrive in one piece, it's important to properly package them before they are shipped.
In order to ensure that your goods arrive undamaged, there are three key things you need to be aware of when packing your parcel:
1. PICK A BOX
It's always best to use a brand new box to package your items, as older boxes may look sturdy while concealing flaws that could leave them crushed or burst in transit. ParcelCompare suggests that you use a double corrugated box for any goods that weigh more than 10kg, though lighter shipments may not need the extra protection.
2. GET PACKING
Before placing your items in the box you should wrap them individually with bubble wrap or other protective materials. Surround your goods with plenty of packing material, so that when the box is closed they are not touching any part of the box walls. Once full, you should be able to shake the box with no movement of your goods.
3. TAPE IT UP
Good quality packing tape can make a big difference to the strength of your box – you should wrap your box at least three times in a Union Flag pattern. Pay special attention to seams and corners, the weakest parts of your box. Remove any old labels and attach your new shipping label so it is clearly visible.
