Danish customs clearance

Because Denmark is a part of the European Union, you don't need to worry about duties or taxes when shipping from inside the EU. When sending from countries that are not part of the EU, you may need to pay duties or taxes. When clearing customs, goods worth more than 80 Danish Krone will have VAT applied, and shipments worth more than 1,150 Krone will have duties levied.

To make sure there are no problems in clearing Danish customs, make sure to properly declare the nature and value of your goods.

Courier collection

As long as you book early, Parcelcompare is able to pick-up your parcel on the same day that you make your booking. This is true of collections from destinations both in Denmark and throughout the UK, but not if your package is particularly large or heavy. Bulky parcels need to be booked a day in advance.

If you require a forklift truck for loading your parcel, or a tailgate on the truck, please let us know in advance. You will also need to be on hand to offer assistance if the package you are sending is very large or heavy.

Denmark delivery

Delivery will be made in Denmark between 9am and 7pm on normal working days. We can't narrow down those delivery windows any further unless you have chosen to use one of our timed delivery options. Our delivery partners will not make deliveries on weekends or public holidays, so keep that in mind while planning your shipment.

We offer proof of delivery with our shipments, but some couriers will leave your package in a safe place if you are not available to take delivery. If you need proof of delivery, please select “signed for” delivery when checking out.

Tracking your package to Denmark

With Parcelcompare you never need to worry about the whereabouts of your parcel, because we keep you up to date every step of the way. Our tracking system follows your parcel to its destination in Denmark in real time, so as soon as there is a change in location or status, you can see it on your screen at home.

And in the unlikely event that something does go wrong with your package, you won't have to wait until you can check our website to find out. We'll email you and your recipient to explain the issue, and work with you to fix it.

Sending gifts to Denmark

Just like sending a normal parcel, if you're sending a gift to Denmark from within the European Union you won't need to worry about paying duties or taxes on your shipment. If this is not the case however, there is a gift exemption for presents with value below a certain threshold – gifts worth less than 335 Krone will have no duties or taxes. Gifts with a higher value will be treated as normal.

Make sure not to simply declare “Gifts” on your paperwork – describe exactly what your sending, for example 'Children's bike' if you're not specific, you may encounter delays in clearing customs.

Packaging your parcel

As part of the shipping process, there are invariably a few bumps or knocks to your parcel as it changes hands, vans and planes. To make sure that your goods arrive in the same condition they departed in, it's vital to properly package your shipment.

There are three key steps to packaging your goods:

1. GET A STURDY BOX

Although an old box may look sturdy, it could be concealing weaknesses that lead to it being crushed or bursting in transit. To avoid this, use a brand new, double corrugated box – especially if your goods weigh more than 10kg.

2. PACK THE CONTENTS

Each item in your parcel should be individually wrapped in bubble wrap or other protective materials. You can then place them in the box and surround with packaging materials, so that no part of your goods touch the walls of your box.

3. SEAL FOR DELIVERY

Make sure to use plenty of packaging tape, which can support the weak points of your box. Wrap three times around the box in a Union Flag pattern, which supports corners and seals. Add your shipping labels so that all information is clearly visible.

Holidays and gift giving occasions in Denmark

They might be the most wonderful time of the year, but if you don't get your gifts posted early your holidays could be a less cheery affair. Because our partner carriers only deliver on normal working days, you need to send early to ensure gifts and other packages arrive before public or bank holidays.

We have collected a handy list of public holidays in Denmark below to help you plan all your shipping.
