Clearing customs in Russia
In recent years’ Russian authorities have increasingly tightened the regulations around shipping to their country. In 2016 a temporary ban on private individuals importing non-document shipments to other private individuals was in effect, with no definite end date given. In less formal terms, this means that if you want to send a Christmas present to your friend in St Petersburg, you either need to have it sent to a business where they can collect it, or have a business ship it to your friend.
Businesses are free to ship to other businesses, or private individuals, in Russia, although the latter may involve extra paperwork. For businesses sending to private individuals, no tax or duties will be applied to shipments up to a value of EUR €1,000, or totaling 31kg per calendar month, anything above this will have duties and taxes applied. For all other shipments there is no import duty for packages below EUR €200 in value.
Collection & delivery
Courier collection
Complete your booking in time and we’ll collect on the same day throughout the UK, though if your package is heavier than 50kg we will need at least 24 hours’ notice before we collect.
Although our drivers are happy to come to your door to collect, they are not insured to enter your home and carry your package down from the loft. Please make sure that your parcel is waiting by the front door, carefully packaged (see our guide below), with the shipping labels attached.
Russia delivery
We deliver between 9am and 7pm on working weekdays in Russia. On public holidays we won’t deliver or collect packages, so bear that in mind when you’re planning a shipment.
Health and safety regulations mean that if you send a parcel over 30 kg in weight the driver will need someone on hand to help him unload it from the van. If you need a pallet truck for this then let us know in advance and we will arrange it.
Tracking your parcel to Russia
When you’re sending to a country as big as Russia it’s reassuring to know where your parcel is on its journey. Parcelcompare’s real-time tracker lets you see every stop your shipment makes, as it happens.
And should your delivery encounter delays, we will email both you and your recipient to let you know. Then our UK-based customer services team will work with you to get it moving again.
Sending gifts to Russia
Unfortunately shipping to private addresses is not currently allowed, and therefore if you do need to send a gift to a private individual in Russia you will need to send it to a business address.
There is a duty exemption for any shipments under €200 in value, so if you’re sending a gift under this value, you should not be subject to any duty or tax charges.

Packaging your parcel
Your parcel’s journey to Russia may not always be as smooth as a ride on the Trans-Siberian Railroad, so it’s a good idea to make sure it’s protected against any bumps, knocks or squeezes it may receive on the way.
Follow our three-step guide to packing to ensure your goods are secure.
1. BUY A BOX
If you use a second-hand box you risk it having hidden weaknesses which could cause it to collapse during delivery. Buy a double-corrugated for any contents weighing over 10kg.
2. FILL IT CAREFULLY
Take each individual item you’re sending and wrap them carefully with packing material, such as bubble wrap. Create a nest of more packing material inside your box for the wrapped items to be firmly suspended in.
3. SEAL IT SHUT
Create a Union Flag pattern with parcel tape, passing it three times around your box in each direction. Make sure your shipping label is the only one on the box and that the barcode is easily readable.
Russian public holidays
Nothing warms up a Russian winter like a day off and the chance to share a glass of vodka and a hearty “Na Zdorovie” with friends. And when the nation celebrates, so do our couriers, which mean no deliveries or collection on Russian public holidays.
