Customs in Nigeria
Every package that enters Nigeria has to pass through customs and may have duties and taxes applied. These can range from 5% to 20%, depending on the contents of the package, the value and the reason for import. If you send a parcel to Nigeria worth less than $10 it will pass through customs without you having to pay duties or taxes.

If your parcel is bigger than 50kg, or longer than 180cm on its longest side then we need 24 hours’ notice and you must be able to offer our driver assistance in loading it on to the van.
If you need a pallet truck or vehicle with a tail-lift just let our customer services know in advance and we can arrange it.
Delivery to Nigeria
We will deliver your package in Nigeria between 9am and 6am on working weekdays. As with collection, if you need equipment to help you with unloading then be sure to tell our customer services team ahead of time.
Sometimes a driver might leave your package in a designated safe area if nobody is home. If you want to guarantee a signature you can upgrade your delivery to ‘signed for’ when you book. We don’t deliver on national holidays so we’ve compiled a handy list of these occasions in Nigeria below.

Sending gifts to Nigeria
There is no gift exemption when sending to Nigeria, which means that all packages, even gifts, will potentially have fees and duties attached when passing through customs. If your present is worth less than $10, there will be no customs and duties attached during clearance. If it is worth more, however, fees will be applied and the recipient will be contacted to pay them.
When sending a gift to Nigeria, it is important to properly fill in your customs paperwork to ensure that there are no problems when clearing your package – don’t just declare “Gift,” declare “Gift – men’s clothes”.
Sending luggage or excess baggage to Nigeria
Although there aren’t any exemptions for sending personal goods like luggage to Nigeria, there are a couple of important things to keep in mind when doing so. Some goods, electronics in particular, have requirements which you should be aware of before exporting to Nigeria.
When sending electronics:
Electrical appliances must include information on life performance, while cables should show information on the ratings.
All electronic equipment and instruments sent to Nigeria must include the instruction manual, safety information and/or safety signs, a guarantee/warranty of at least six months.
When shipping luggage:
Parcelcompare will not insure the outside of a suitcase if you have shipped it unboxed, so be sure to protect wheels and remove straps where possible.
Large parcel and air freight to Nigeria
Parcelcompare are specialists when it comes to shipping those parcels which other couriers just can’t handle. If you’ve got a big package which is up to 270cm in length on its longest side and 1,000kg in weight, including pallets, then we can help you send it quickly to Nigeria by air freight.
Just bear in mind that if your package is heavier than 50kg, you will need to book in advance and, even if it doesn’t require a forklift, you may need to provide your courier with assistance loading and unloading the delivery.

Packaging your parcel for shipping to Nigeria
If you’re planning on sending a parcel from the UK to Nigeria then you want to be sure it will be well protected from the bumps and knocks which can occur on the way. The way you package your parcel makes all the difference when it comes to protecting the contents.
To avoid disappointment with your delivery simply follow these three simple steps:
1. Get a new box
This is the first line of defence for books and priceless statues alike. Make sure you use a new, double corrugated cardboard box – old boxes are liable to burst or be crushed on the journey.
2. Pack your box
Wrap your goods individually, after all, you don’t want them to damage each other. Surround them in your box with plenty of packaging material, and make sure they don’t move at all.
Seal your box
Your packing tape can help protect your box’s weakest points, so be generous. Wrap around your box three times in a union flag pattern, then add your labels so that all information can be seen.
